I was picked up by my tour bus around half seven and driven through the northern beaches picking up customers along the way and along the beautiful costal road to Cape Tribulation.
At the Daintree River we enjoyed a cup of Daintree tea and went on a 45-60 minute cruise looking for wild crocodiles (every time except once I have seen a crocodile). When you don't see crocodiles the guide finds birds, frogs and snakes and if you don't spot any of these there is a very in-depth talk about mangroves. This time I saw 5 crocodiles, a pair of green tree fogs and a variety of birds.
Each guide offers an interpretive walk along the Marrdja board walk (or alternative walk). On this occasion I got a very thorough explanation of some of the uses of the plants in the forest by the traditional owners and the interaction between plants and animals.
A tasty lunch was offered at PKs that is ready when you arrive. From PK's you can venture the short walk down to the infamous Cape Tribulation beach.
(If you stay over night you can package in Jungle Surfing, Night Walks, Sea Kayaking with Paddle Trek, Cape Trib Horse Rides, half day snorkelling with Ocean safari or full day snorkelling trips with Rum Runner. Great accommodation can also be packaged at Cape Trib Beach house, Ferntrees, Jungle lodge, Pks or Crocodylus.)
When its time to turn around and head back over the ferry on the Daintree you can go to the lovely Mossman Gorge and go for a dip. Here it is safe to swim - with no crocodiles, or stingers or any other nasty critters! The water is cool and refreshing and the paths are lovely to walk around.
The Alexandra Range Lookout is on the way home providing excellent views over the northern beaches stretching back towards Cairns - wonderful photo opportunities. The final stop on the way home is free time around Port Douglas to check out the shops or have a beer at the historical Court House or the funky Iron Bar. The ice-cream shop is also well worth a visit.
